Aimee Mayfield aged 10 from Burton on Trent, a pupil in Year 5 at Abbotsholme School has won Player of the Year Award after having only played for Burton Hockey Club Under 10’s for the past two years.
Aimee and the Under 10s went to a tournament recently and they played four teams in the competition including Belper, Lichfield, Burton B Team and Beeston. They won all their matches bar one, coming second in the whole tournament.
Additionally Aimee was asked to play for the Burton Under 12 B Team because they did not have enough players. Aimee and the other under 12s drew one match and lost the others coming fifth, with Burton A Team coming second.
It was during the awards night later that day that Aimee received the player of the year award, and the team were awarded the team of the year award too.
Aimee who has only been playing hockey since the age of eight said of her award, “I am really overwhelmed by the award, and every time I look at it, it doesn’t feel real.”
