Abbotsholme’s Headmaster Steve Fairclough and Abbotsholme pupils launched the start of Abbotsholme Schools 125th year with a special photo.
The Old Abbotsholmians Club has kick-started the fundraising appeal for an Astroturf which coincides with our 125th with a generous donation of £10,000!
Abbotsholme School was founded in 1889 by Dr Cecil Reddie as ‘The New School,’ and next year the school will be 125 on 1st October 2014, so the school is launching the start of the 125th year with a special 125th photo. The photo – taken by Star Photo in Uttoxeter – shows pupils from across the Prep and Senior schools in the shape of 125 at the front of the school.
Later on in the day pupils walked to Reddie’s grave to honour the founder of Abbotsholme in the annual service that takes place.
From Wednesday, all Abbotsholme pupils are going on hikes across the country for three days to places such as the Lake District, Snowdon, Peak District and Yorkshire. Outdoor education is – as it has always been – a central part of the Abbotsholme ethos with these hikes happening every year.
Next week we launch an addition to Abbotsholme’s education in this 125th year, when we welcome Norbury & Roston Pre-School as Abbotsholme Pre-Prep School. Norbury & Roston have been a welcome addition to the school since January 2012, and their inclusion into Abbotsholme with their shared ethos and vision will be an excellent addition to the Abbotsholme education journey.
Fundraising activities to raise money for the Astroturf include asking people to donate 125 auction prizes for an online auction we will be running in 2014. In December we will be launching the events programme for 2014 as well as encouraging people to get involved with, “What’s your 125?”
Promotional merchandise will be available with new items being added each month for people to purchase – and we are only ordering 125 of each!
