Abbatsholme Halloween CharityHalloween for Hunger, tins of food for cats and dogs and shoe boxes for children in Africa have all been part of the schools charitable activities in the last few weeks.

Abbotsholme School’s pupils have been busy helping a variety of charities and causes in the run up to Christmas.

The Prep School organised the Samaritan’s Purse ‘Operation Christmas Child’ Shoe Box Appeal and over 120 boxes were collected to send to the charity so that 120 children in the developing world will receive a gift this Christmas.

George Stone, a sixth former organised the “Halloween for Hunger” cAnatcholme Christmas Charityharity activity by asking the whole school to bring in tins of food to take to the Stoke on Trent foodbank as well as a mufti day to raise further funds for the Trussell Trust’s food bank project.

A number of senior pupils also went out into Rocester to trick or treat during the week leading up to the mufti day for canned goods donations and the homes the girls visited were greeted with real generosity.

Finally Year 7 pupils have been asking friends and neighbours for donations of cat and dog food and took them, along with a further donation of £75, to the Ashbourne ARC (Animal Rescue Centre). Following this, the centre has asked for three volunteers to go down to the centre once a week to cuddle and look after the kittens for a few hours! Needless to say there has been a wave of volunteers for this activity!

Suzanne Kuster, the Round Square and Charity Co-ordinator, said of these activities, “It is really important for our pupils to be aware of how they can help others with charitable activities both internationally and on our doorstep.”

“These activities demonstrate the breadth of our pupils help with animals, UK families and children overseas, and the pupils always get so much out of being a part of these projects.”
