It’s that time of year again at Abbotsholme when pupils queue up to be on lambing duty as our sheep start lambing.abbotsholme lambing

Abbotsholme began lambing a week ago and so far pupils have helped bring nine lambs into the world and a few more due to come. Lambing began on Saturday 23rd February and all our lambs are healthy and lively. Two days later we were sending some of our sheep off to market.

Abbotsholme’s ethos is to ensure that all aspects of farming and the environment are explored.

Christina Liddle, Head of Estate Education said, “It is really important for pupils to experience the whole life cycle of the animals on the farm, from farm to fork.”

“The 70 acre working farm at Abbotholme plays an important part in the all round education of our pupils who have every opportunity to get involved whether in lambing, rearing, feeding or learning about the food process.”

Abbotsholme is welcoming prep school visits over the next few weeks for pupils to hold the lambs and get to Lambing Abbotsholmwexperience a bit of farm life.

If you want to come and view the lambs then Abbotsholme is having an Open Day on Saturday 9th March from 9.30am. Call Michele Archer on 01889 594 261 to book a place.
