Abbotsholme School Race For LifeOn Saturday 7th March, Abbotsholme hosted a ‘Race for Life’ to raise funds for Cancer Research and also gather friends and family members together for an enjoyable run in the sun.

The event was the brainchild of some of the Year 7 pupils, Elsie Jones, Yasmin Perrins and Harrison Dodd, who were challenged, as part of what they did in their weekly Round Square activity, to organise an event to raise charitable funds. It was their idea to host such an event and they did much to prepare for the event, including publicising it to pupils and parents.

In the end, 31 runners took part, supported by family members and refreshed, afterwards, with drinks from a stall kindly run by parents. The weather was breezy but clear and sunny, providing good conditions for the run. Some opted for the ‘fun run’, over one or two loops of a figure of 8 course round the school estate. Others ran competitively around the full, 4.2km figure of 8 course. Mr. Cameron finished in first place and the first pupil back was Robin.

The event has already raised hundreds of pounds and further sponsorship funds are expected to come in. My congratulations and thanks go to all the runners and everyone who donated funds for this most worthwhile of charities. There was talk of a repeat of this event in the future; watch this space!
