IMG_1903Abbotsholme pupils were given the honour of walking in the Peak District with HRH The Earl of Wessex in celebration of the Diamond Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Abbotsholme pupils between the ages of 13 and 18 who are in the middle of or who have completed their Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, joined HRH The Earl of Wessex in the Peak District for a walk. For the pupils it was very familiar territory, since not only is it used for DofE training and expeditions, but also School hikes, camps, climbing, walking and Outdoor Education learning and in many cases since the age of five in our Prep School.

Abbotsholme was selected – with three other schools – as the school is an extremely successful DofE centre, offering the award to a consistently high number of pupils and delivering one of the highest completion rates in Derbyshire. Pupils got the chance to chat about their Award and what they are doing along the way with HRH The Earl of Wessex.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Charity is celebrating its Diamond Anniversary this year, having helped to transform the lives of millions of young people in the UK and across the globe since it was founded in 1956.

To celebrate its 60th year, the Charity has launched the DofE Diamond Challenge. This one-off initiative allows people of all ages to take on a DofE-inspired challenge and earn a limited-edition DofE Diamond Challenge pin.
