Abbotsholme School Christmas TruceOn Wednesday 17th December, pupils, parents, staff and friends will be gathering together just before the end of the school term to remember a unique event from 100 years ago: the Christmas Truce.

A certain supermarket may have pipped our amazing Head of History, Mr Wilson who came up with the idea, to the post on this one but discussions were definitely had within School before the advert was first shown on TV!

The inspiration for this advert, coincidentally, was Sir Andrew Hamilton’s grandfather’s diary, and Sir Andrew‘s sisters all attended Abbotsholme School. Therefore, the story behind the advert has a real link to Abbotsholme which makes our celebration all the more special.

Abbotsholme pupils, parents, staff and friends are invited to join in and take part in the Abbotsholme Christmas Truce, 100 years after it happened in December 1914.

Our Truce will start at 3.00pm where everyone will gather on the front lawn for football and carols. This will be followed at 3.30pm by an afternoon candle-lit walk to the Roseyard where the singing of ‘Silent Night’ in German and English along with a two minute silence will happen. Everyone is then welcome to enjoy some refreshments and mince pies in the School dining hall.
