George Stone, a Sixth Form pupil secured a week’s work experience in the Fabric Department at Liberty’s of Abbotsholme Liberty londonLondon giving him an insight in to the energetic and highly pressure environment of one of the leading department stores.

George, aged 17 from Ashbourne, Derbyshire, began the week with an Induction course at Liberty’s where he was introduced to everyone in office building and set to work on helping with the production of the designs and fabric prints.

George said of his time there, “I learnt so much about different printing styles that is involved and all about the Abbotsholme Liberty londondesigning process from print to product”

“I learnt all about the distribution and selling of the products too as well as the creative elements needed to get a product to the consumer which in many ways can stifle the creative juices.”

He added, “Liberty’s is at the forefront of mixing art with consumerism, and I learnt so much in an amazingly fast paced, and energetic environment; I felt like I was in a cultural whirlwind for a week, having been picked up from one world and thrown headlong into another.”

“My mum is very driven and having been involved in speed skating at a national level, this highly pressured environment was something I really thrived in.”

He concluded, “I definitely want to live and work in London, and this experience has given me the inspiration to want to work in an experimental design environment so I am applying to various institutions including Central St Martin’s, Chelsea and Falmouth to do Fine Art.”
