Abbotsholme School Kenny Logan VisitAbbotsholme School was delighted to welcome Kenny Logan in this Rugby World Cup Year for its Summer Gathering Weekend, which marks the end of the academic year, as the visiting guest speaker for Speeches during Saturday 4th July.

Kenny Logan, a retired Scottish rugby union player who played wing for a number of clubs and Scotland, and best known for his successful stint with London Wasps where he won three English Premierships, and being on Strictly Com Dancing, talked to parents, pupils, friend and staff about his school days being a dyslexic pupil where he was branded thick by his teachers. He praised the two Heads of School – both of whom are dyslexic – for being able to make such fantastic speeches, something he said he would have been unable to do at School.

He spoke at length about dealing with this and the fear he felt when he met his wife Gaby and how she would react, but he mentioned she was the one who gave him the confidence not to let this get in the way.

He continued by saying that he wished there were Schools like Abbotsholme around in his day to support pupils with learning skills and told pupils how lucky they were to be able to receive an education at a School like Abbotsholme.

Mr Logan had spent a good amount of time in Abbotsholme’s learning skills department earlier in the day and tweeted out after he left Abbotsholme, ‘@Abbotsholme School thanks for having me! I hope you all have a great day!’
