Abbotsholme Warhammer club went to the Games Workshop’s Nottingham head quarters for the regional schools Abbotsholme Warhammer clubleague finals.

Tactics had been planned before the day and a few last minute tweaks in the minibus on the journey there ensured that the Abbotsholme team were ready to do battle.

On arrival, and in true Abbotsholme style, fifth member and team substitute Brandon stepped up to play for another school as they were a team member down.

Unfortunately Brandon lost his matches however this was declared a tactical advantage for us, although a tactical disaster for the school he was playing for!

After three rounds of Crusade, Purge the Alien, and The Emperor’s Will, the 36 teams came together for a quiz which featured members of the Games Workshop staff in positions recognisable only to those who know their Warhammer 40,000!

Once all of the marks had been totalled and the quiz team marks added the results were revealed. The Abbotsholme team had a long wait but were finally they were named as one of the ten teams who qualified for the National schools league held in June. Success!

George Atherden, from Matlock and a Year 12 pupil, said of the competition, “It’s really exciting to be going to the National competition in June.”

Jacob Palmer, from Rocester and also in Year 12 said, “It is the first time that a team from Abbotsholme has got through to the Nationals.”

Both said that, “It was good to be able to get other peoples thoughts on our playing skills and put all our training and practice in action.”
