KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERASimon Pearson, the Obituaries and Letters editor of the Times newspaper, and former Abbotsholme pupil, will be speaking at Abbotsholme School on Thursday 27 February about his current bestselling book, The Great Escaper: The Life and Death of Roger Bushell.”

Mr Pearson, has over the past few months been speaking at several major literary festivals, on the Today programme on Radio 4, and the Richard Bacon Show on Radio 5, as well as radio in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and will now visit Abbotsholme as part of a special series of lecture events to celebrate the Schools 125th anniversary.

The book, a current bestseller is the first biography of Roger Bushell, who was Big X – the officer in charge of the  “Great Escape” from Stalag Luft III in 1944, which was the role played by Richard Attenborough in the Hollywood film.

This year sees the 70th anniversary of the escape in March, only a month after Simon comes to Abbotsholme, so his visit is very timely. Mr Pearson will be available at the end of the lecture to sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase too.

Members of the public are most welcome to attend this special event. Tickets cost £10. If you are interested in attending this lecture at Abbotsholme School, please contact Hannah Akers on 01889 594 289 or email her at Hannah.akers@abbotsholme.co.uk
