Abbotsholme Young Farmers Club won third place in the County Public Speaking Competition over the Abbotsholme Public Speaking Competition weekend having only been established for one month!

Abbotsholme YFC pupils took part in three competitions: Junior Public Speaking, 16 and under Speaking, and the Intermediate Brain Trust.

In the latter two competitions, Abbotsholme pupils picked up commendations for their performances, and in the Brain Trust we fielded the youngest team coming only one point off gaining third place.

In the Junior section, Toby Hall aged 12 spoke for six minutes in the 16 and under competition on Toby Jugs. Although he was very nervous, he did an excellent job of presenting this traditional object in his speech.

Toby along with Joanna Walker aged 15 and Rachel Ekstein, aged 13, went onto gain first place in the public speaking competition, in which they had to read a passage from Warhorse. It was their introduction ad outline of hoe warhorse came to be written that impressed the judges. This means they are going to the county competition on March 17th.

Toby said of the win and the experience, “I was really nervous but I enjoyed doing the speech very much.”
Christina Liddle, Head of Estate Education added, “I am really proud of them all for having a go in a competition that they have never seen or been to before.”

She added, “They were a real credit to Abbotsholme and did an excellent job.”
