Hockey Girls Go Close in County Final

Burgess Hill Girls Hockey TournamentBurgess Hill Girls Under 14 Hockey Team took part in the County Hockey Tournament held at Hurst College on Tuesday 4th November. There were twelve schools taking part in the competition with two sections of six schools. In the group stage the Girls beat Christ Hospital 3-0, Farlington 3-1, Mayfield 2-0 and Millais 5-0 and narrowly lost to Eastbourne College 1-0. The team finished in second place to advance through to the semi-finals to play the winner of the other heats. Here they met a strong Ardingly team in what was a closely fought battle. The girls showed a real desire to win and worked tirelessly for each other, with Tia Homer converting a penalty corner 4 minutes from time.  This was enough for the girls to go through and meet Eastbourne in the final.  This was both teams seventh match and there were some tired legs in the final that was played out to a 0-0 draw, which led to penalty flicks. The nerves got the better and Eastbourne went onto take the title. The girls now go onto play a Regional qualifying match against James Allen Girls School.

Girls Win East Grinstead Tournament

The Under 14 Hockey Team continued their rich vein of form and played some brilliant hockey at the East Grinstead Tournament. Six teams took part in a round robin format and the girls produced some dazzling play in both defence and attack. They beat Croydon High 3-0, Bromley High 3-1, Millais 5-0, Roedean 3-0 and Benenden 4-0 to become champions. A fabulous achievement, proving it’s not all about the facilities, it’s the raw talent and expert coaching. Well done.
