Stunning Concert which ‘wowed’ the audience

Sixteen Music Scholars at Burgess Hill School for Girls provided a stunning musical evening to parents and guests on Tuesday 14th October 2014. The audience was “wowed” by the talented musicians.

The evening opened with a performance from the School’s youngest scholar, Jessica Guy, aged 10, playing a movement from a Vivaldi Violin Concerto. Other first half highlights included a lively Ukrainian folk dance played by Leah Clark on the Bassoon and a lyrical performance on the Saxophone by Isabel Woodings. Chloe Miller brought the first half to an exuberant finish with a dazzling movement from Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, played on the clarinet.

The String Quartet opened the second half with a Uruguayan Tango, and was followed by Ella Burton playing a very demanding Flute Sonata. Pippa Jin-Box and Amy Lovejoy, who both study at the Junior Royal College of Music on Saturdays, gave stunning performances on the cello and violin.

The final soloists were Phoebe Honey and Florence Williams who gave complete performances of Haydn’s Piano Sonata in F and Bellini’s Oboe Concerto respectively. The evening concluded with an exciting excerpt from Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto no.3 played by the Violin Quartet.  Brilliance truly shone!

Mr Paul Newbold, Director of Music said, “All the scholars gave fantastic performances. It has been a joy to see the girls develop their confidence through music and challenge themselves with a demanding repertoire.”
