‘Sing a New Song’ at Chichester Cathedral Concert

Burgess Hill School Chichester Cathedral Visit
Junior School Choir at Burgess Hill School for Girls take part in ‘Sing a New Song’ at Chichester Cathedral

The Junior School Choir from Burgess Hill School for Girls were invited to sing as part of Cathedral Voices ‘Sing a New Song’ at Chichester Cathedral on Thursday 16th October 2014.  The girls were delighted to have been invited back to such a wonderful event.

The girls sang beautifully as always. They had learnt the harmony parts before they arrived and were therefore invited to sing along with the Chichester Choristers at the front of the cathedral.  Jim Clements, the composer of two of the songs, ‘Bosham Bell and St Cuthman’ and ‘The Boy with the Cart’, was in the audience listening.  This was a real highlight of the day.  The choir also sang along to two hymns ‘Praise my Soul the King of Heaven’ and ‘Here I am Lord’ accompanied by the organ.

The event run by Chichester Cathedral gives an opportunity for schools to come and sing new choral repertoire alongside Chichester Choristers in the beautiful surroundings.

Mrs Tamara Pearson, Deputy Head of Junior School said, “It was an honour and privilege to perform such challenging vocal works at Chichester Cathedral in the presence of one of the composers. Last term, St Paul’s Cathedral, London, this term Chichester Cathedral…where next?”
