Culford Nursery School African Drumming

African Drumming Comes to Culford School

Pupils from Culford’s Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep Schools tried their hands at African Drumming last week.  Rodgell Shadracke from world music specialists ‘Inspire Works’ led a drumming workshop which not only gave the Culford children the chance to experience music from another culture, but also allowed them to learn about bass, rhythm and tone.  The highlight of the day was when the children played the African drums themselves – something they took to like ducks to water!  Pre-Prep & Nursery Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Preston, commented:

‘Music’s ability to enhance education is well established and it forms a regular part of the school day at Culford.  Bringing in experts such as Inspire Works helps us to widen the children’s musical and cultural horizons in a way that’s fun and interactive.’

Music has always played a major part in life at Culford School and the African Drumming is just the latest in a string of special music events.  Last year Culford’s Pre-Prep School ran an extremely successful ‘Steel Pan Band Workshop’ and plans are already afoot for next year’s musical event.
