Dauntsey's School St Michaels Cheque FSMU Charity
Pupils from Dauntsey’s School present a cheque for more than £22,000 to Vicki Beach, a founder member of Friends of St Michael’s Girls School, Uganda

Dauntsey’s School has presented a cheque for £22,313.46 to FSMU, Friends of St Michael’s Girls School Uganda, a girls’ primary school in an area of rural Uganda, 88 miles to the east of Kampala.

The money was raised through a series of events at Dauntsey’s, including mufti days and economy school lunches, with the savings made donated to the charity pot. A retiring collection at the School’s Autumn Concert contributed £1,100 and more than a hundred pupils participated in a ‘Swimathon’ in February.

Each School House organised a variety of events ranging from cake sales and Fêtes to car washing and rag collection. The crews representing the School in the Devizes to Westminster canoe race raised more than £7,000, and third form pupil Sophie Atkinson organised a charity walk with her friends which raised an impressive £1,000.

Annie James, Head of Charities, Dauntsey’s School, said:

“Each September, the entire school community votes to adopt a charity for the forthcoming academic year. The impressive total raised for FMSU is testament to the commitment made by pupils to support the important work done by St Michael’s in Uganda.

“We would like to thank pupils, staff, parents and everyone who helped us raise such a fantastic amount.  The money will be used to improve St Michael’s facilities and buy new books and materials; it will make a real difference to the young girls at the school.”

For the 2014/15 academic year, Dauntsey’s School has selected to support CALM [Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement]. CALM helps children and families undergoing treatment at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. http://www.calmcharity.org/

In the past ten years, Dauntsey’s School has raised more than £200,000 for a variety of good causes.
