David Hare OL, and the company of ‘South Downs’, photographed at Lancing College.

‘South Downs’ is David Hare’s new one-act play, which will premiere at the Minerva Theatre, Chichester, and will run from 2 September – 8 October. David Hare, one of our most respected playwrights, was a pupil at Lancing College in the 1960s.

This play is set in 1962, in a public school on the South Downs; David Hare, the Director, Jeremy Herrin, members of the cast, costume and technical teams have all visited Lancing to research the setting and context.

Jeremy Tomlinson, Registrar at Lancing College, and  colleagues have helped them in their researches, and Jeremy has given them an in-depth tour of the College.

The photograph shows David Hare (centre back row, in a blue shirt), with Anna Chancellor (standing second from the right), next to Nicolas Farrell (far right), who are both starring in the play.
