Staff and students at Ellesmere College are celebrating another impressive set of International Baccalaureate results. The IB qualification which is an alternative to A levels, requires students to study six subjects, including math’s, science and a foreign language.

Ellesmere College Sixth Form student Michal Zarzecki achieved the outstanding score of 43 points, which is only 2 points short of the maximum grade – a score achieved only be a handful of UK students and only 160 or so worldwide. Michal said “ I am stunned, I honestly thought I had done well but never expected to be so close to the maximum score. I am now looking forward to studying medicine at university”

Students Max Assmann ,Caspar Fritzen and Robert Blach also hit very high marks. Ellesmere Headmaster Brendan Wignall was delighted saying “this is an exceptional set of results, our pupils have done so well.  They have certainly worked very hard. All of our IB students will be exceptionally well prepared for University following the rigorous demands of this course. We look forward now to the publication of the A Level and GCSE results in August.”

The IB pass rate at Ellesmere College increased to a point where it is now well above the IB world pass rate. Well over half of the cohort (58%) achieved more than 30 points, which is equivalent to A* AA grades at A Level.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma was introduced at Ellesmere College in September 2006 as it’s well respected by leading universities across the globe. IB Diploma students follow a broad range of subjects over the two years of the programme, but can at the same time specialise in those subject areas of greatest interest to them.
