A team of six L6th form Physics students took part in the annual SATRO Problem Solving Challenge at Epsom College SATRO physicsBlenheim High School on Monday.

Pitched against secondary schools and sixth form colleges from Surrey and the surrounding areas, the teams are set a problem to solve within a fixed time, using only the materials provided.

This year, the challenge was to create a coin sorting mechanism, with a light indicator, within the 90 minute time limit.

The Epsom team of Maria Mikhaylova, Jae Jung, Henry Warne, Briana Norris, Simon Guyott and Tom Brankin-Frisby manage to design and construct a mechanism, which worked in parts, but unfortunately failed to win them a place in the final to be held at Charterhouse in March.
