Invictus 2Dauntsey’s was delighted to see former pupil Fiona Bullen (1996-2004) winning one gold and three silver medals in the swimming pool at the Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida.

Veteran Royal Air Force Flight Lieutenant Fiona has had multiple hip operations and a spinal operation as a result of an injury sustained during a training exercise. She now has limited mobility and long-term chronic neuropathic pain in her leg. A swimming course organised through Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Tedworth House, reminded Fiona of her love for competitive sport and taught her about the benefits of low impact sport for her injuries.

Fiona attended the first Invictus Games in London. She says that it gave her a reason to get up to train and be good at something again.

“Talking about what I can do is much more satisfying and interesting than talking about the can’t dos.”

In 2009, Officer Cadet F. J. Bullen was awarded the Sword of Honour on passing out from Royal Airforce College in Cranwell.
