Headmaster of Kingham Hill School, Nick Seward, delivered on his generous, and rather rash, promise of a gleaming new bike if top pupil, Sam Zhu, gained four ‘A’ grades at A-Level.

Kingham Hill SchoolSam’s results were more than good enough – A*, A*, A, A. Those grades also secured his offer of reading Mathematics at St. Hugh’s College, Oxford. Both Sam and the Headmaster were delighted.
On a sunny early autumn evening at the end of freshers’ week Sam received a visit at St. Hugh’s from Nick Seward. Congratulations and best wishes were offered and, of course, the shiny new bike was handed over.
Dominic Beasant, Head of Mathematics, joined the fun and received a bottle of champagne – another of the Headmaster’s promises!

Nick Seward confessed to being almost emotional as he stood outside St. Hugh’s College with Sam. “Sam was a tremendous example to other pupils and now an inspiration as his friends see what can be achieved when a fine mind and hard work combine. Sam has a strong Christian faith and real determination to use his intellect for the good of others. I wish him all the very best and am sure that he will be a great success.”
Dominic Beasant is as thrilled as the Headmaster: “Sam is wonderful proof of what Kingham Hill (an academically non-selective school) can achieve with an able pupil. We identify our most gifted students and offer them specialist input, extended studies and the opportunity to attend public lectures, argue persuasively and think creatively. We expect others to emulate Sam’s success.”
