Girls from Westonbirt School have scooped up a selection of trophies and high marks in their first year of entering the westonbirt schoolCheltenham Competitive Festival for Speech and Drama.

Despite entering only a small cohort of 28 this year, the girls rose to success and will certainly be hoping to return with even greater numbers competing next year.

Amongst the competitors was Alice Wordsworth, who recently starred as Miss Hannigan in the triumphant whole school production of Annie.

Alice impressed the adjudicators in both of her classes, winning The Palmer Dodwell Challenge Cup with 90 marks for her Shakespeare Solo from ‘King John’ as well as gaining 89 for her contemporary monologue, which won her The Syd Tonge Cup.

Students Sophia Rossi and Suzanna Battishill also delighted in their duologue class, gaining 86 marks and receiving The Philip Crowther Memorial Challenge Cup.

There were a host of medals to add to the list of victories: Hannah Reichwald picked up two Silver medals for her comedy performances, earning 89 marks for her solo scene and 87 marks for her duologue with Trudi Seager.

Other medalists included Emily Pearn, Felicity Woolnough, Ella Morrison and Yalan Nie, whilst Lola Berdegue-Saenz and Emma Scott entertained audiences to achieve fourth place in their acting classes.

These girls and others are continuing their Speech and Drama lessons this year in preparation for the forthcoming LAMDA examinations hosted at the school in June where they are hoping to extend their achievements and enjoy the culmination of a thriving year of Performing Arts for Westonbirt School.
