Kingham Hill School Maths Science Facility Veritas BuildingAfter a full year of construction delighted pupils are now receiving Mathematics and Science classes in a brand new, state-of-the-art building. Opening celebrations involving parents, VIPs, alumni and friends of the school have left everyone wide-eyed and smiling.

The new facility is the product of much careful consultation and the outstanding architectural input of Mark Foley, a past head boy of the school. Its design is coherent with the beautiful and historic buildings that adorn the estate, echoing characteristic architectural features, yet interpreted for today.

The new facility, that is to be known as The Veritas Building, has been sensitively finished with a combination of Cotswold stone, timber, glass and zinc. It boasts six laboratories, six classrooms, a seminar room, three Science prep rooms, office space for staff as well as a large light-filled atrium.

Head of Science, Stephen Miller, is determined that the new labs will be put to work at every opportunity. Over and above a busy Science curriculum this will include a special annual Science Day for pupils in local prep and primary schools.

“The name was chosen following a consultation process with the wider Kingham Hill community, both past and present.

Veritas, being Latin for ‘truth’, reminds us that modern Science sprang from the intellectual and spiritual fruits of the Reformation. Science, with its particular legitimate methods, rests within a wider framework of truth, which requires a philosophy of rationality.

“Our hope is that nourished by our particular Christian ethos, pupils will be inspired to discover the complexity, beauty, and order of the Universe and our planet. In state-of-the-art facilities, we want them to develop a rigorous academic curiosity, and a thirst for greater knowledge of the world around them.”
