LANCINLancing College from the AirG COLLEGE CHAPEL: laying of foundation stone for west end
Saturday 17 September 2011

The final phase in the completion of this iconic building on the South Downs
(143 years after building commenced)

Lancing College Chapel, one of the most impressive landmarks in Sussex, high on the South Downs, is a magnificent neo-Gothic Grade I listed building. The foundation stone was laid in 1868, and the Chapel contains excellent stained glass and a number of rare and valuable artefacts. The stonework and metalwork of the Chapel windows have recently been restored by the acclaimed Chichester Cathedral Works Organisation.

It is extraordinary to think that this celebrated Chapel has, in fact, never been completed. The west end was never built. To celebrate the 200th birthday of the Revd. Nathaniel Woodard, founder of Lancing College,
the Friends of Lancing Chapel have announced their intention to complete the west end.
