Lancing_Cricket_Scholarship_2The Peter Robinson Cricket Scholarship

For an outstanding young cricketer at county level or above

Closing date for applications: Friday 7 February 2014

Open to all boys and girls, from any school, with cricketing potential. The first scholarship is available for Year 9 entry into Lancing College in September 2014.

Lancing College has an excellent record of success on the cricket field. The Peter Robinson Cricket Scholar will be encouraged to realise his or her full potential, joining a strong group of like-minded, young cricketers. The Scholar will receive a tailor-made programme centred on his or her skills, including one-to-one sessions with the Director of Cricket, excellent liaison with the County Cricket Boards and the opportunity to compete at national and regional level. The Scholar will not only benefit from Lancing’s outstanding facilities in a spectacular setting, but will also be able to take advantage of an exceptional academic education.

This is an exciting time for cricket at Lancing College, which currently has a number of county players who excelled in the 2013 season. Alongside multiple individual accolades, Lancing’s young cricketers won the Blackshaw Bowl and progressed to the Southern Semi finals of the Lord’s Taverners Colts Competition.

Peter Robinson, who was educated at Lancing, excelled in both sport and academic endeavours whilst at the College. His favourite sports were cricket, squash and swimming. Peter completed his studies at Cambridge University where he was in the university cricket and squash teams, playing squash for England. He taught at Westbourne House, Chichester, before pursuing a highly successful career in current affairs TV and founding Video Arts, a production company, with John Cleese. Peter continues to enjoy visiting Lancing College, and is an active supporter of the development of sport at Lancing. He remains passionate about cricket and suggested the Cricket Scholarship, which he is supporting financially, in order to foster young talent in this field.

Lancing_Cricket_Scholarship_1Lancing will award the Peter Robinson Cricket Scholarship to a young person with an outstanding talent in cricket, who has the commitment and enthusiasm to succeed both on the field and in the classroom, and also the potential to be a role-model.

If you, or someone you know, aged 12-13 years, is playing cricket at county level or above, and would be keen to apply for the Peter Robinson Scholarship, please contact Chris Crowe, Lancing’s Director of Sport, at cpc@lancing.org.uk, to register interest and find out more. As with other Lancing scholarships, it will be possible to augment the percentage of the fee reduction by a means-tested bursary.
