Lord Wansdworth College Schoolboy overcomes challenges to win national award
Lords Wandsworth College pupil ChrisA teenager from Lord Wandsworth College has gained recognition from a national children's charity for his commitment and contribution to his boarding school in Hampshire. Chris A, who is 18 and just finished his final year at LWC, has won the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Award from the Royal National Children's Foundation after his houseparent, Mr Charlie Lovelock, recommended him. "Chris faced really tough challenges in his home life when he joined us at 14. His experience of school had been unrewarding and difficult and following the death of his mother he lacked a stable home life and adult role models. But as a full boarder Chris has joined in with many different aspects of school life while keeping up with his academic achievements. He's represented the house in dance competitions, run in the school athletics team and in the Easter holidays he joined the 1st XV rugby tour of South Africa. He's now waiting for A Level results and hopes to go on to Leeds University."

Chris's place at LWC has been funded by the Lord Wandsworth Foundation with support from other educational trusts, including the Royal National Children's Foundation. Chris's proud Headmaster at LWC, Fergus Livingstone added, "We are delighted that Chris has won this award. It recognises his commitment to his boarding house, his team mates and his friends. The Lord Wandsworth Foundation is currently supporting 49 other pupils at LWC who, like Chris, have lost one or both parents and need a stable living environment as well as a school full of opportunities. The work of the Foundation is at the heart of what we do at LWC, helping children to find fulfilment though challenges and achievements in the classroom and beyond."
