It is every budding young performer’s dream; to be cast in the Scottish Ballet’s latest production.

Two Loretto Junior School pupils received a massive boost to their ambitions by landing roles in the Scottish Ballet’s fresh and vivid retelling of The Nutcracker.

Humphrey Borsi, 10 from Musselburgh in East Lothian and Hamish Ogilvy, 11 from Pencaitland, East Lothian auditioned recently and both were cast following demanding auditions and some stiff competition.

Following on from the hugely successful productions Cinderella and The Sleeping Beauty comes this revival of The Nutcracker, a sweet yet deliciously sharp take on ETA Hoffmann’s original story Nutcracker and the King of Mice.

This retelling of the famous Christmas story features stunning sets and costumes, breath-taking choreography and Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous score performed live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra.

The Nutcracker arrives at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh on 8th December.

Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto School, said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for Humphrey and Hamish – we do congratulate them both. They are both talented young men-certainly ones to watch in the future!”
