‘Young company bring array of engaging, emotional and believable performances’ to Edinburgh Festival  3 *** review

Mayfield School Edinburgh Fringe ReviewA group of talented, young actors, from The Theatre School in Tunbridge Wells, were celebrating this week, after an outstanding review at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.

Aged between 16 and 18 the company performed Dennis Kelly’s ‘DNA’ which charters the unlikely turmoil of a group of teenagers who find themselves in the midst of a terrible crime and their efforts to preserve their innocence.

Among the actors were three Mayfield School girls, Darcie Gomer, Tori Clay and Izzy Goatcher. Izzy received a special mention in the 3*** review by Broadway Baby for her threatening character Cathy, ‘whose penetrating stare says a thousand words!’

The Theatre School is run by Colin Armour from the Mayfield School Drama Department.

Mr Armour said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved to perform as a company at the largest arts festival in the world. It’s something brilliant for the actors to add to their CV. Everyone has been super focused and done a phenomenal job! Getting a three star review for a youth production is really good, considering that five star reviews are going to the professionals.”

As well as performing their show each day, the group also took advantage of the other theatre on offer and saw on average 4 performances a day.

The Theatre School runs drama classes for 11-18 year olds at the weekends in Tunbridge Wells. From September, on a Saturday, the Year 7-8 classes will be run at and in conjunction with Mayfield School.
