Merchiston Castle Golf Academy pupil, Calum Hill, has signed a letter of intent to enrol at the University of Louisiana, Monroe, USA in the Autumn 2013 Semester.

Calum Hill from North Berwick who is a current associate SGU Academy player will be teaming up with fellow Scot Greg Smail who recently transferred from the University of Louisville. Hill says "I can`t wait to get started. This has been a lifetime ambition of mine and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all at Merchiston who made this happen. I am so grateful."

Director of Golf at Merchiston and Hill’s coach Alan Murdoch was instrumental in him being offered a place at Monroe. Murdoch says," I am delighted for Calum. He is a fantastic young man who has worked extremely hard on both his golf and academics. He deserves this opportunity and I wish him well."

Merchiston’s Golf Academy is based both at the School’s 100 acre campus in Colinton, Edinburgh, where the boys – both boarding and day – participate in the School’s normal educational and social activities; and also at the nearby par 70 Kings Acre Golf Course, where coaching, practice and tutorial work take place. The boys also have access to all the facilities and sports expertise available at the School. This includes a fully-equipped fitness suite, swimming pool and sports hall, coupled with advice and mentoring from the School’s sports staff, the housemasters and tutors.

Murdoch himself is a past graduate from the same University. In fact Hill will be joining a list of past top Scottish players who attended ULM – Kenny Walker, Royal Burgess (Men’s Scottish Internationalist) and Kenny Buchan, Peterhead (then Scottish Amateur Champion). Hill is looking forward to meeting up with Buchan, who still resides in Monroe.

ULM Head Men’s Coach, Eric Hsu, is delighted Hill has signed. He says, "Calum comes with an impressive golfing record. I will be looking for him to make an initial impact. The Warhawks will definitely be turning some heads come September 2013."
