Merchiston Castle School appoints new Director of Rugby

Merchiston is delighted to be able to announce that we have appointed Rob Moffat as our new Director of Rugby, and he will take up his post in August 2013.

NEW DIRECTOR OF RUGBY AT MERCHISTON CASTLE ROB MOFFATRob was educated at Galashiels Academy before completing an Honours degree in Physical Education and Human Movement at Jordanhill College. After graduating, Rob was employed by Borders Regional Council, starting off as a PE teacher, then as Senior PE teacher at Galashiels Academy, before moving schools to become the Principal PE teacher for Earlston High School.

During his time at Galashiels Academy, Rob coached the 1XV for 17 seasons and won the Scottish Schools Cup on four occasions. His coaching career continued outside of School with Melrose RFC where he was instrumental in the club’s success in five Scottish Championships.

In 1996, Rob made his move to the Scottish Rugby Union, holding a variety of positions including Head Coach of Border Reivers; Head Coach of Great Britain 7’s; Head Coach of Scotland A; Head Coach of Scotland U20 and Head Coach of Edinburgh Rugby. In 2011, Rob took up the post of PE teacher at Dollar Academy, where he is currently employed.

Rob has a wealth of experience in the game of rugby and he is hugely respected in rugby circles.

We are delighted that he will be joining Merchiston and we look forward to working with him to continue to achieve excellent standards in this important area of School life.
