Monkton Combe School is delighted to announce a partnership with Abbeyfield School in Chippenham to share resources in their Combined Cadet Force. From September 2011 Abbeyfield students will travel to Monkton Combe School to take part in Combined Cadet Force activities each Wednesday afternoon. Both schools are contributing staff and are looking forward to a fruitful partnership.
Monkton is one of the few schools to operate a full Combined Cadet Force. From year 10 onwards, pupils are able to join the Army, Navy or RAF sections where they train in outdoor pursuits such as shooting, orienteering, abseiling, canoeing and gliding. They may also attend training camps which offer more outdoor activities including go-karting, paintballing, hiking, night exercises and RYA sailing courses at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.
Monkton Combe School Principal, Richard Backhouse, said “The CCF is a marvellous environment in which young people learn skills of communication, team work and leadership. I am delighted that we have this opportunity to share our training of young people in these skills with pupils from Abbeyfield School. I am sure that it will be a long and happy partnership and look forward to working with staff from Abbeyfield in the future.”
