On Sunday 24th April, eight hockey players from Oundle School played hockey for Northamptonshire county at the regional tournaments.

At the U16 tournament in Wolverhampton, Maya Nicolson (15) and Ella Johnsrud (15) played a tough set of matches both contributing to the team’s success in finishing 4th. 20160424 U17 Girls Hockey Junior Academy Centre (JAC) 002

Six girls played for the county U18’s at Burton on Trent; Issy Myers (17), Fran Aldridge (16), Alice Wilson (16), Miranda Joicey (16), Lara Chapman (15) and Kara Kimber (16).  The team had been coached by Miss Hoskins for the season but were coached by Head of Hockey Mr Terrett for the tournament.

Northants started the tournament with a tight 1-0 win over West Midlands with Fran Aldridge scoring the winning goal. This was followed by a fine second half performance in the next match against Derbyshire; with the scores level at 1:1 at half time the girls showed their class and scored three unanswered goals and they could have scored more!

With a guaranteed spot in the semi-finals, the girls won the final match in the group against Staffordshire, heading in to the semi-final against Leicestershire.  After a nervous start the girls showed their class and Issy produced a fine back foot shot, which she has been working on throughout the term, to take the lead. Others had their chances too, including Fran who broke through the defence but the ball was sadly not converted.  Northants allowed Leicestershire back into the game but fine goalkeeping kept them at bay, even when a penalty corner was given after time.
