Queen Margaret's School Hockey Staff StudentsAt first glance a Staff v Girls hockey match in the last week of term may conjure up images of sharing, frivolity and plenty of polite handshakes. However, in true competitive spirit, this match was a closely fought battle right to the end. There may have been Santa hats, reindeer ears, tiaras and Christmas jumpers but shin pads and gum shields were also definite must haves.

The girls had a good amount of possession in the first half and both sides played well to come in with a score of 0-0 at half time. Stuart Thompson, Deputy Head (Enrichment & Extension), did take a few tumbles but was at a slight disadvantage being dressed in a Santa beard and school skirt!

At the beginning of the second half Mark Payton and Nigel Allison found some space and scored two goals in quick succession for the staff. The girls then fought back with Katherine Lindsay scoring at the other end to make the end result 2-1 to the staff.

Well done to everyone who took part at Queen Margaret’s School and to the small but perfectly formed crowd for cheering on both teams.
