Ben Latham, Year 12, has been selected from hundreds of applicants to attend a Leadership and Challenge course in Canada during the summer of 2013. He has been selected as one of the top 12 British cadets, this year, for this course.

He will be challenged physically and mentally during the 6/7 weeks whilst in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. The whole emphasis of the course is on Leadership and Challenge.

Leadership, as the cadets take full responsibility for their group, from the group’s welfare and to ensure the tasks are successful.

Challenge, as they will be training at times in extremely harsh environments and tough situations, pushing themselves, very often to the limit of endurance and their mental capacity.

He will also be integrated into platoons with Canadian cadets, some of whom French is their first and only language.

The training will involve; expeditions onto Glaciers, expeditions through the Rocky Mountains, Horseback riding, Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, Canoeing / kayaking grade 3 glacial rivers and a community parks project.

Mr Gareth Lloyd, Headmaster commented: “We are thrilled for Ben, and very proud of his achievement. He has worked extremely hard to win this coveted place, and will certainly benefit from the wonderful opportunity that awaits him. He typifies the excellent work ethic of so many of our students, all of whom join me in congratulating him.”
