Ratcliffe College pupils taking part in the annual cross country festivalOn Saturday 21st January 2012, Ratcliffe College hosted our annual cross country festival, with fourteen schools taking part. The event took place in very muddy, wet and cold conditions, but nobody minded, as a good time was had by all and the sun did eventually appear!

The first race was the fun run for boys and girls in Years 1 and 2; the supporters were amazed at the children’s high spirits in such testing conditions and the children from Ratcliffe College all ran very well.

The rest of the festival saw both boys and girls from Years 3 to 6 compete and earn points towards their team scores.

Ratcliffe had some very good results and won the boys’ Year 5 and girls’ Year 6 team awards. Headmaster, Mr Lloyd, commented: “What a wonderful morning everyone enjoyed, as a result of a huge team effort. It has been brilliant to see so many boys and girls enjoying this lovely course, with so much support along the way.”

Special individual mentions must go to: Annie Rose Reddin (4th, Year 3), Louis Westwood (3rd, Year 3), Owen Lloyd (1st, Year 4), Connor Foster (5th, Year 4), Jo-Jo Evenden (2nd, Year 5) and Nicole Spencer (4th, Year 6).

Thank you to the parents and staff of all of the children taking part, the runners, our ground staff and the Parents’ Association for their team effort in making the festival another huge success and enjoyable occasion. A very special mention must go to Mr Gilchrist for organising the event and to Mr Lloyd for being a fantastic hare in all 9 races!
