Young pupils left their mark in the Courtyard at Ratcliffe College’s new Preparatory School this week for future generations to discover.
Last month, Ratcliffe College, on the A46 near Leicester, opened its doors to a state-of-the-art building for their new Preparatory School for children aged 3-11. On Wednesday, the school’s principal chaplain, Father Ted Mullen, blessed the new School, and staff, pupils, governors and benefactors gathered in the Courtyard where a time capsule was lowered beneath the centre stone of the Courtyard.
The capsule contained pictures which the pupils had drawn of themselves and of what they loved doing at school. They had written letters to the children of the future telling them what life was like at school in 2014 and asking them questions about the future. They added a couple of disks of photographs in the hope that they will still have the technology in 50 or 100 years’ time to open the files and see them.
Head Boy, Finley Back (12), and Head Girl, Lucy Antill (11), laid the time capsule in the hole whilst Father Ted Mullen blessed the capsule and the Headmaster of the College, Mr Gareth Lloyd, spoke to the children about the significance of the day in the school’s history.
Headmaster of the Preparatory School, Father Christopher Cann, stated: “It is a very proud day for us all at Ratcliffe College as we open this new school. It is so moving to think how many more children are going to be able to benefit from coming to school here because of this wonderful new building.”
