Olympian Joins Schools’ Cyclists on 100 Mile Ride for Leicester Hospital’s Our Space Appeal
Sunday 23 September, Dawn till Dusk

Olympic medallist Bryan Steel, will join 180 local cyclists from across Leicestershire and Rutland to ride 100 miles in one day, raising money for Leicester Hospitals’ Our Space Appeal on Sunday 23 September.
Bryan, who won Silver in 2004 and Bronze in 2000, in the Team Pursuit, has been a member of the GB National Cycling Team for 18 years and has clocked up 35 National medals.

He joins pupils, staff, parents and friends of five independent schools: Loughborough Endowed Schools, Oakham School and Ratcliffe College, for the 100 mile Cycle Sportive ride around Leicestershire and Rutland.
Riders start out from Ratcliffe College at daybreak, 7.10am. The route goes out to Loughborough in the morning (8.30am – 11.30am), back to Ratcliffe at lunch time and then to Oakham in the afternoon, expected back at Ratcliffe from 5pm onwards.

Andrew Yell, Development Director at Ratcliffe College, who is riding himself, comments: ‘There’s been a fantastic response to the idea and we are very excited. This is a professionally organised Cycle Sportive and many riders are very experienced; for others it will be a very demanding day so the groups are staggered according to ability. We have been training hard all summer and everyone is determined to give it their best shot!’

The following companies have provided sponsorship, ensuring that the fundraising for Our Space Appeal is maximised: Benton’s, Farmer & Carlisle Toyota, Funky Tents, Laurent-Perrier, Porsche Centre, Leicester and Ford Sandicliffe, Leicester.

The Our Space Appeal will create a dedicated Children and Young People’s Cancer Unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. For more information go to www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/ourspaceappeal
