Ratcliffe College Student Achieves Chief Scout’s Gold Award

Edward Joseph Cefai , Year 10, has gained the Chief Scout's Gold Award which is the highest Award a Scout can Ratcliffe Collegegain within his section.

Edward has been in scouting all his life, as his parents too are both involved. As a Beaver Scout in Malta, when he was only 6 years old, Edward moved on to Cub scouts when he moved to the UK and carried on in Cub Scouts with the 9th Loughborough Scout Group, moving onto Scouts and eventually becoming a Senior Patrol Leader of his section.

He is now moving into Explorers but in the meantime has joined the Leicestershire Scouts County Young Media Team – which is the first in the Country.

Edward says: "To achieve my Chief Scout Gold Award, I undertook a number of challenges. For my Community challenge I helped distribute leaflets to the local community, while for the Fitness challenge I undertook six weeks of training, which included running and competing in a mini assault course.

When it came to the Creative challenge I participated with the rest of the Scout troop in creating a scout information video, which gave an insight into the main events and activities of my scout group.

For the Global challenge I camped in Malta and part as my outdoor Plus and Adventure challenges I undertook a number of activities which included canoeing, fishing, rafting and lifesaving."

Mr Gareth Lloyd, Headmaster commented: “Edward Joseph is to be congratulated on this outstanding achievement. He is a young man of immense integrity and commitment to help others, which he does selflessly and skilfully. Well done indeed, Edward!”
