Rydal Penrhos School Hockey Eryri ChampionsThe Rydal Penrhos girls’ hockey team put up an emphatic performance in defence of their Eryri title winning all five matches to retain the championship convincingly.

Facing five teams from across the North Wales area in a tournament of twenty-minute matches, the girls played excellent hockey in both attack and defence scoring fourteen goals overall and conceding only one; and that only an unlucky deflection.

In the first match they finished 1:0 against Ysgol Eirias. In the next two matches the Rydal Penrhos girls overwhelmed opposition from Coleg Meirion Dwyfor and Ysgol Berwyn beating both teams by four goals to nil. The team from Coleg Menai was beaten 3:0 and the last match against Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen contained the Rydal Penrhos team’s only concession which finished 2:1.

The Rydal Penrhos top goal scorer was Hannah Cashell with a magnificent eight goals. Christina Rech also played very well scoring three, Captain. Alex Cawthra, put two in the net and Tara Edwards scored one.

The tournament also saw some impressive debut performances from rising stars, Elinor Davies, Emily Cashell, Anna Richardson and Sammy Sherrington, who were superb additions to an already solid side.

By retaining the Eryri title, the Rydal Penrhos girls will now have the opportunity to defend their Welsh National Schoolgirls Hockey Championship title in March.
