Rydal Penrhos Prep Hockey AfternoonRydal Penrhos Prep School has been strengthening sporting links with a Conwy County primary school by hosting hockey skills taster sessions.

Following connections with Ysgol Bro Gwydir in Llanrwst lasting several years – including fixtures in netball, rugby, girls’ and boys’ football, cricket and rounders played at both schools – the invitation was made to Year 5 and 6 pupils of Bro Gwydir to come to Rydal Penrhos to experience a hockey taster session on the school’s Astro pitch as there are no hockey facilities at the Llanrwst school.

The action packed afternoon began with hockey-based warm ups followed by fun activities to teach the basic skills of dribbling, tackling, passing, receiving and scoring goals with all pupils having the chance to try each different technique. The day concluded with all sixty pupils combining to play a mixed school, gender and ability mini tournament.

It was an extremely successful and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with the emphasis placed on collaboration between the school rather than competition and a great opportunity for the pupils to forge new friendships.
