Saint Felix School AwardSam Knights never thought she would be working with children until she travelled to Fiji and found herself in a school helping pupils with their English. Now she is Acting Nursery Supervisor at Dragons Nursery at Saint Felix School and loving every minute. Last week she travelled in style to the House of Commons to be awarded Advanced Apprentice of the Year by YMCA Training.

“It was a great day. I had lunch at Planet Hollywood, then was transported by Stretch Hummer around Trafalgar Square and then to parliament, accompanied by my partner Chris and my assessor at YMCA, Mary Dicker. Diane-Louise Jordan from Blue Peter presented the awards, and we met a lot of MP’s, in particular Waveney constituency MP Peter Aldous.”

Sam had to speak in front of over 100 people about her journey to where she is today, “from a directionless eighteen-year-old to finding something really fulfilling as a career. I’ve now been at Dragon’s Nursery for three and a half years and it’s been the time of my life. I love it.” Having completed NVQ levels 2 and 3 in Childcare and Learning Development Sam is now working towards a Foundation Degree.
