St Leonards-Mayfield School pupil Anna SozankaCongratulations to Anna Sozanska in Year 12 at St Leonards-Mayfield School, who has won a Gold Award in this year’s Biology Olympiad. Over 4,000 sixth form students from across the UK took part in the competition, and Anna was one of just 216 who gained sufficient marks to be honoured with the coveted Gold Award.

The Biology Olympiad is held each year by The Society of Biology, in conjunction with the International Biology Olympiad. The aim of the Olympiad is to encourage the UK’s young biologists in their studies and interest in the subject.

Anna is reaching the end of her first year at the School. In addition to Biology, she is also studying A-Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, German and Polish and is aiming to apply next year to study biology at university.

Head of Biology at St Leonards-Mayfield School, Dr Shah-Smith commented: “Anna’s achievement is all the more impressive when you consider that she is studying six A-Level subjects, on the cusp of taking Grade 8 in the piano and learning to play the organ! It’s testament to the hard work and commitment she has shown since joining the school.”
