Stonyhurst cast of Hansel and Gretel

Tales by the Brothers Grimm burst onto the stage, through ballet, tap, contemporary dance and drama at Stonyhurst College recently as some of the famous stories were performed by pupils aged 3 to 18. Stonyhurst Dance gave an enchanting performance of Hansel and Gretel, as the lost children, wicked stepmother and tiny woodland birds came to life through the dancers’ energy and talent. This was complemented by a selection of tales including Rumpelstiltskin and Ashenputtel (or Cinderella), presented by Stonyhurst’s Drama Workshop. The audience chuckled throughout as each character brought fast-paced, physical comedy onto the stage, while the two witty Grimm brothers journeying through the forest in search of the ‘best’ story. The drama performance was adapted and directed by the Head of Drama, Laura Dixon, and the dance was devised and directed by Stonyhurst Dance teachers, Anna Southward and Andrea Morrison.
