The Stonyhurst squad quickly got used to the demands of Tens Rugby, their quality of play improving consistently throughout the day. In a thrilling semi-final against a strong Wilmslow squad, the Stonyhurst team maintained its composure in the face of Wilmslow’s early lead and a hard-fought 22-12 win put them into the final against hosts St Ambrose College, Altrincham.
In the final, Stonyhurst exerted excellent defensive pressure, restricting St Ambrose’s dangerous runners and showing patience with ball in hand. Two tries from captain Tom Morgan and a full length of the pitch effort from Eduardo Lavarini saw Stonyhurst home with a convincing 19-0 scoreline, having saved their best till last.

Stonyhurst, the Jesuit day and boarding school in Lancashire, has a distinguished history of international rugby players, which includes Kyran Bracken, Ian Balshaw and Joe Ansbro.
