Strathallan School is delighted to announce the introduction of a Girls Rugby Camp to its Summer Camp Programme. Following the success of former pupil Abi Evans, the School initiated weekly girls rugby sessions which are enjoyed by a large number of pupils and as a result Strathallan will be hosting a three day camp in July open to girls from across Scotland.
Abi started playing rugby aged twelve and has played at U15, U18 and U20 levels. In 2013 she played in Scotland U19 team at the UK School Games, captaining the side the following year. This year Abi made her Scotland International debut in the 6 Nations opener against France.
Director of Sport Audrey Sime commented, ‘We are delighted that a number of current Internationalists will make up the coaching team for our first Girls Rugby Camp. Interest in womens and girls rugby is on the increase and following discussions with the SRU we were keen to incorporate this into our School Sports and Summer Camp Programmes. We are delighted the have the support of the SRU and are very excited about this new venture.’
SRU Womens and Girls Rugby Development Manager, Sarah Quick added ‘The women and girls game in Scotland is continuing to grow in schools and clubs across the country. It is fantastic to see a real desire and ambition from an independent school to support and develop the game. This camp will not only be a great opportunity for girls across the country to further develop their skills and experience, it will also build on the training sessions the school have started to develop Strathallan’s first ever girls rugby team.’
The camp is open to girls from 11 to 18 years of age and no previous experience is necessary. We look forward to welcoming girls to Strathallan for what promises to be an energetic and fun filled three days.
