Wrekin School Sports SuccessRounders

Last week the Lancaster teams put on a great display beating Thomas Telford School in both matches. The Under 13s had the closest game winning by half a rounder.

Athletics

The boys’ and girls’ athletics teams have had a very busy and successful month. On Wednesday 29th May the boys’ team had an exciting relay match against Shrewsbury, Bedstone, Lucton and Thomas Telford schools managing to win the event by just four points from Shrewsbury School. On the Wrekin track at the same time, the girls’ team had a full athletics match against Moreton Hall, Shrewsbury School, Thomas Telford and Lucton; with some excellent performances they matched the boys’ and managed to clinch a win. In the evening of the same day, the Year 9 girls’ team met 11 other schools in the Telford and Wrekin competition coming first after 12 disciplines, very well done to all three teams.

More success came in the Telford and Wrekin Schools’ competition the following week when the Year 8 boys’ came third and the girls’ fourth out of 13 schools, giving them a combined overall position of second behind Idsall School.

Congratulations to Leo Read who ran 11.1 seconds for the 100 metres, this is an English Schools National qualifying time!

June is a very busy month for athletics with the County Schools’ Championships, the County Schools’ Cup, the Mason Trophy and, hopefully for some, the English Schools’ National Championships.

Cricket

Two Wrekin College teams took on Shropshire County Development Teams, both were well contested matches with Wrekin winning one match and losing the other. On the same day the Under 14/15B team narrowly missed out to Ellesmere College. The Under 15 team took on Shrewsbury School in the County Cup semi-final, on the day Shrewsbury School proved to be too strong and we wish them well in the final.
The 1st XI beat Oswestry School comfortably on Saturday. Connor Dudley scored 143 and Dillon Pennington took seven wickets.  For their exceptional performances Dillon was awarded the De Weymarn shield for bowling over 5 wickets and Connor, the Benwell Shield, for scoring over a century in one match.
