Wrekin College Sporting UpdatesExcellent Athletics Results

The athletics season has started with some excellent results both team-wise and for individuals. On the team front, both the boys’ and girls’ Sixth Form teams won the Telford and Wrekin Schools’ Championships and, in the same competition, the Years 10/11 girls were first with the boys coming fifth. Both age groups won the combined boys and girls section.

43 pupils competed in the Shropshire AAA championships with 15 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 12 bronze medals being awarded to Wrekin College.

Nick Street, Tess Sanders, James Clarke and Dani Rawlinson were all 2015 Bayley Mile winners in their respective age groups.

Congratulations to the following pupils who have either broken or equalled the school records so far this term:

Georgie Perris-Redding 100m, 12.4 (equals school record)

Senior Girls relay team, 52.0 (new record)

Lucy Asson 100m, 12.6 (equals school record)

Inter Girls relay team, 52.5 (new record)

Klara Albrink long jump, 5.24m (new record) and 80m hurdles, 2.32 (new record)

Dani Rowlinson 3000m, 10.38.5 (new record)

Latest Sport Results

Cricket

The Under 13 team beat Adams’ Grammar School on the last ball of the game whilst the Under 12 team lost out.  The Under 15 had a very convincing victory against Oldbury Wells School in the quarter-final of the County Cup.
The Under 14 boys tied with Adams’ Grammar School with the Under 15 picking up another good win against Adams’. The Under 17 side lost out to Shrewsbury School with a leavers’  team missing out to The King’s  School, Worcester on the same day.
On Saturday both the Under 13 A and B teams lost out to strong Packwood Haugh teams. Although the Under 14 team lost to Ellesmere College, it was a much improved performance. The Under 15 and First XI teams also lost Ellesmere and the Second XI secured a seven wicket victory.
Rounders
The Lancaster teams had tough fixtures against Stafford Grammar School. The Under 13 team found them too strong and then the Under 12 had a great second innings coming from behind to win 111/2 to 101/2.
Swimming
Excellent results from the Shropshire Schools’ gala:
Tess Sanders  3rd – 100m frontcrawl, 100m breastroke.
Sophie Blakstad 2nd – 100m backstroke
Jake Walker 3rd – 100m front crawl.
Ella Townson also swam a personal best time in the 200m individual medley.
In the Wrekin College Schools’ Aquathlon Relays on Saturday the girls’ team of Kate Grimsdale, Sophia Malpass, Evie Smailes and Ella Townson won the Years 7 and 8 competitions.
Fencing
The épée team, Olivia Nicoll, Tom Holbrook and Aidan Roberjot, beat both the Tettenhall College A and B teams.
