York school raises hundreds for charity 2A group of York children have raised nearly £1,300 for charity.

The children, aged six and seven from Clifton School and Nursery, had been learning about Stig of the Dump when they discovered that many children around the world live in awful conditions, with some living on rubbish dumps.

The pupils wanted to help those less fortunate, so learned new skills to create products to sell at school for Small Steps Project – a charity that supports children and their families living on rubbish dumps.

The children made and sold cakes, tin can plants and their own sewn goods among many other items for the fundraising event.

Year 2 teacher Judith Hall said: “We were very proud of the children – both in their compassion and in their effort to raise as much as possible for Small Steps Project. We want to say a big well done to them and thank all the parents for their fantastic support.”
