east_anglia_art_competitionArchie Wallis, 10, has recently been awarded first place in the top category (Year 6) of an art competition run by ‘Young Art East Anglia’, an organisation aimed at ‘Celebrating children’s art and raising funds for Cancer Research UK’.

Archie, a pupil at Saint Felix School in Southwold, created his artwork as part of a class project based on the work of Karen Stamper, and is delighted to have won the award. His teacher, Mrs. Susie Yates, said, “It’s really great that we have another winner in the school, as a pupil won the prize a few years ago. It’s been a pleasure to teach Archie and nurture his obvious talent.”

Another Saint Felix pupil, Hamish Collen in Year 2, took third prize in his category, and five other pupils in the school were ‘Highly Commended’. Another sixteen talented young artists of ranging from Reception to Year 6 will have their work exhibited.

Of the 1800 works of art submitted by school pupils from across East Anglia, 336 pieces were chosen for an exhibition at Peter Pears Gallery in Aldeburgh. This was open to the public from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 March and all funds raised went towards Cancer Research UK as does the money raised from the sale of artwork and postcards. A prize-giving was held at the gallery for all prize winners, highly commended artists, their families and subject teachers to attend.
